Care Watch is closing

but our work continues

December 2025

With heartfelt pride in 27 years of dedicated service and advocacy, and with a sense of bittersweet reflection, the Board of Directors announces that Care Watch is closing. For us, this is the end of an era, but we look forward to continuing our mission through new avenues.

Charlotte Maher, Bea Levis, Ethel Meade, Harriet Smith, and 10 other like-minded colleagues founded Care Watch. Their mission was clear and compassionate: to champion accessible and affordable home care and community support services for older adults. For nearly three decades, the organization has carried forward that vision, sustained by the enduring legacy of our founders and the steadfast support of our community.

We are immensely proud of what we have accomplished over the years. Many members of the current Board of Directors have served for a significant period of time, helping to guide the organization’s mission and give voice to older adults and caregivers.

Despite our efforts, current financial realities prevent Care Watch from continuing. Our website will remain active in 2026, but our operations will cease. While this chapter is coming to a close, the need for advocacy remains, and our voice can be stronger when we support other organizations. We are transferring our remaining financial resources to the Ontario Caregiver Coalition and are honoured to contribute to their work. We encourage our supporters, partners, and community members to continue standing up for accessible and affordable home care and community supports for older adults by engaging with the Coalition or with other organizations, for example, the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly or Seniors for Social Action (Ontario). What is important is that this work continue and that all of us remain involved.

We extend our warmest gratitude to everyone who has supported Care Watch throughout its journey. Your commitment has made a lasting difference.

With sincere appreciation,

The Board of Directors
